HOW HAS IT BEEN?

[ABSTRACT]

"How has it been?" is a participatory filmmaking project motivated by the prevalent stereotypes that misrepresent international students as wealthy, superficial outsiders who occupy housing and compete for jobs in Australia. Seeking to counter these reductive views, the project uses practice-based methodologies and action research to amplify international students' voices. Through short-form filmmaking for social media, it explores cultural adaptation narratives by creating co-produced, authentic stories that reveal the complexity of their experiences. This project highlights the potential of participatory design to reshape public perceptions and empower international students' voices by offering a space for sharing their unique perspectives.
